"Running on Empty"

I found this closed down restaurant in Nova Scotia along route 7.  I was riding south out of the Highlands down to Yarmouth.  The weather a perfect71 degrees in the middle of August. A great ride on a great trip.

Crater Lake.  The beauty of this place will take your breath away.  I was mesmerized by it.  The photo was taken in 2002.  Perhaps because Dennis is no longer with us, but this trip is emerging as the most memorable.

Of all Rocky Mountain Ranges, I find the Tetons the most scenic.  They seem to drop out of the sky and on the land.  This is a snapshot of Colter Bay in 2002.  Dennis and I explored the area while in Yellowstone.  I came back in 2003 and camped nearby.

In this age of mega mart convenience stores, with their shiny glass coolers and overflowing shelves, the old fashioned country store is an oddity.   Nowadays, you only find them on the deserted back roads.  Stores such as this one in Coatesville, Virginia, complete with a wooden screened door, plank floor, and glass bottle Cokes.  A Long Rider will also have better luck finding a good conversation inside.

Here you find Richard Follen working his earplugs as we load up.  We took a break at a taco stand near the coast.  Great tacos.

I've always liked historical places, and other famous scenes.  In this picture you will find the famous Roseman Covered Bridge from the bestselling book, and movie, "The Bridges of Madison County."  I was riding through the heartland on a cold, cloudy day, when I noticed on the map I was not far the area, so took a side trip to check it out.

The fall of 2001 found Uncle Phil and I in Canada.  After spending a few nights north of the border, we were working our way back over to Maine, when we stopped to admire this hilltop view of Route 17 snaking its way through the Green Mountains.  It was my first trip to see a New England Fall, and I loved it.  Photo "Uncle" Phil Derryberry

The Southwest is full of unique rock formations.  This rock in Bryce Canyon National Park seems to be teetering on the edge.  It has been standing like that for hundreds maybe even thousands of years. I visited there in 2002 on my way back east from the Hotel California.

The glory of fall in New England.  I've had the good fortune to tour the region twice in the fall seaon. In 2001, and 03.  The countryside of Vermont was alive in color when this picture was made in 2003.  The freshly painted wood framed house, looked peaceful so I stopped for a closer look.
