The East Coast- The East Coast. Home to lush green grass, thick foliage, and old mountains with soft round peaks. Where you find New England, and its quaint towns, celebrating fall color. The down home atmosphere of the Ohio Valley, the twisty roads of East Tennessee and Western North Carolina, where pavement is so smooth you can take the shocks of your bike. I've ridden some great roads in the East. Riding in the Eastern U.S. takes a entirely different mindset then that of the West Coast. You have to be more patient, and program yourself to accept traffic and lots of urban sprawl. Still a Long Rider can find plenty of good riding. I've leaned in the following mountain ranges of the Appalachians- Adirondacks, Green Mountains, The Blue Ridge, Smokies, the Shenandoah, Allegheny, Berkshires Catskills, and the Poconos to name a few. Excellent riding. The east lacks one thing- long run outs. I don't know of a single road in the east where you can ride 50 miles uninterrupted. Put yourself on a federal, state, or local road and you are sure to find a traffic light before long. Roads such as the Blue Ridge, Skyline, and the Cherohala are long, but with speed limits so ridiculously low, and strictly enforced, it removes some of the fun. But make no mistake, you can lean some great roads in the east. However, you will not find a lot of length to these roads. They range from 20-50 miles in distance. The highest concentration of such roads can be found in East Tennessee and Western North Carolina. There, you can link together many roads and lean all you want. It is the only area in the east that can rival the west. I hope you enjoy my list of great East Coast riding. Open a state, the most recent additions are titled in red.
